Silvia Capuzzo - Spirituality Enthusiasts

My name is Silvia Capuzzo, and I welcome you to Spirituality Enthusiasts. This show brings together nine (or maybe eleven) oil paintings on canvas.
Each work includes recurring elements — frogs, birds, idle hands, soft cucumbers, miniature sumo wrestlers, and the slender, invasive tree of heaven — which move from painting to painting like variations in a visual language. These images shift role and tone: sometimes they’re decorative, sometimes disruptive, sometimes just a sign of something trying to mean more than it can. They are familiar figures, placed together to create a small sense of imbalance — a carefully composed tension that breaks on a detail: a red face dragging frogs, a red dog crashing a quiet table scene.
What ties these works together is a kind of staged ritual — scenes that resemble ceremonies, bets, casual gatherings, games without a clear goal. There’s humor in that, but also a hint of something slower, more uncertain. We, the viewers, become the spirituality enthusiasts in the title: not because we believe in what we see, but because we can’t help looking for meaning, even when it’s unclear.
Often, I know there’s no exact meaning in these images. And still, something stays behind. Not a message or a lesson — just a presence, a weight, a rhythm that won’t resolve. That lingering part is what interests me most: when the image keeps resonating even after you’ve stopped trying to explain it.
