Gaia Gasparetto - Pyre
Duration: October 23 - November 21, 2026
Gaia Gasparetto’s practice is rooted in the study and combustion of organic and symbolic subjects, often immersed in metaphysical spaces.
An imaginary fire devours these elements, freezing them in the suspended moment between destruction and regeneration.
These spaces are characterised by arid lands set against blazing skies and firmaments that, like mirrors, reflect the light released by a fire that is never depicted, yet whose unstoppable, purifying passage can be sensed.
This fire acts as a transformative and symbolic element, a mediator between the earthly and spiritual worlds, and a complex, ambivalent archetype of transmutation, leaving behind an ashen embroidery, a trail of metamorphosis between subject and landscape.
The resulting paintings and sculptures allude to a process of lucid descent into the unconscious, culminating in the transcendence of the limits of the self. This manifests itself through the subjects’ inherent symbolism and the palpable tension of colour and form.
These works evoke an atmosphere of introspection, where a quiet anxiety seeps in, inviting viewers to confront their own inner dialectic between the desire for transcendence and the finitude of the human condition.
The eye of a scavenging bird of prey guides the artist’s choice of framing, suggesting a rapid descent towards the object of its consumption, which, scorched by the flames, finds renewed transcendence in the creative act of making the work.
